Job Overview:


This is an exciting opportunity to lead and develop clinical pharmacy services within the Surgical and Care of the Elderly specialities. The post holder will provide expert clinical pharmacy input, as part of the multidisciplinary team, with a particular focus on Emergency Care and frailty, ensuring the safe, effective, and cost-efficient use of medicines.

The role involves day-today management and supervision of ward-based pharmacists and technicians, close collaboration with senior medical, nursing and pharmacy colleagues and direct patient-facing clinical practice. Responsibilities include medicines optimisation, medicines reconciliation, discharge planning, audit, governance, and incident investigation.

The post holder will also play a key role in education and training across the specialties, support independent prescribing practice, contribute to research and audit activity, and participate in wider pharmacy services, including dispensary and on-call rotas, in line with Trust policies and professional requirements. 


Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and develop clinical pharmacy services to the Surgical and Care of the Elderly specialities
  • Supervision of the ward-based pharmacists and technicians working in the specialities
  • Liaise with the relevant senior pharmacy, medical and nursing staff o as to promote safe, and effective use of medicines within the Surgical and Care of the Elderly specialities
  • Provide information and support on drug usage and expenditure and work with senior clinicians to maximise clinical effectiveness of medicines used and minimise cost
  • Develop, with senior clinicians, a robust medicine related audit program
  • Participate in the training of pharmacists, pre-registration pharmacists, undergraduate pharmacists and other pharmacy and NHS Staff
 
Requirements:
  • GPHC Registration & Previous UK Experience
  • Postgraduate certificate (or equivalent) in Clinical Pharmacy, or currently working towards attaining
  • Experience of one-to-one and small group teaching
  • Previous experience of audit or quality improvement
  • Knowledge of the legal framework for the dispensing, prescribing and administration of medicine
  • Excellent organisational, and communication skills
